Project Manager

Established in 1996, Kono Kogs, Inc. is a privately owned company recognized as the world’s leading supplier of preowned thermal oxidizer systems. Position Overview:

Kono Kogs, Inc. is seeking a skilled and confident Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing 3-4 projects at a time, working closely with sales and project managers to understand client requirements, and collaborating with manufacturing and shop leads on new designs and rebuilds. This role also involves mentoring less experienced drafters and designers, assisting in creating engineering standards and ensuring the quality and performance of all projects. The candidate must be a strong communicator, able to lead projects assertively, and not just be an observer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed mechanical drawings using AutoCAD Mechanical and Fusion 360.
  • Develop sheet metal flat patterns to assist in manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with sales and project managers to understand and fulfill client requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing and shop leads on new designs and rebuilds.
  • Mentor and guide drafters and designers, especially those new to the field.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining engineering standards.
  • Create detailed spec sheets for purchasing.
  • Design stacks and ductwork per SMACNA standards.
  • Meet and maintain quality, efficiency, and productivity standards.
  • Participate actively in team meetings to address cost, quality, or production issues.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to resolve any concerns.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Project Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage 3-4 projects simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines, budgets, and client expectations are met.
  • Work towards transitioning into a project management role.
  • Request quotes on major purchased components and services.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical shop leads to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Communicate with customers and shop leads regarding any schedule changes.
  • Direct mechanical designers to complete project drawing packages.
  • Perform equipment sizing calculations and develop specifications for purchased components.
  • Work closely with customers to understand their project needs and expectations.
  • Assist in project applications and budgeting processes.
  • Travel as necessary, depending on project requirements.
  • Create and maintain reports to provide updates to the team.
  • Provide guidance to shop and service personnel as needed.

Work Environment:

  • Currently, two other project managers oversee a team of 5-6 employees each.
  • This role offers the potential to work in a hybrid environment, with 2 days working from home and 3 days in the office.
  • The candidate must be a strong communicator, able to work directly with others, and confidently lead projects.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 per year with annual wage/performance reviews.
  • Profit Sharing: Annual profit-sharing based on performance and management discretion, typically placed into the 401K account.
  • Insurance: Individual/Family Health and Dental insurance, with Accident Aflac insurance covered by Kono Kogs and additional insurance available for employee purchase.
  • Life Insurance: $25,000 Life Insurance Plan with hybrid disability coverage.

  • Travel Benefits: All frequent flyer, car rental, and hotel points earned during travel are for the employee's personal use.
  • American Express Card: Provided for travel expenses, including airline lounge access, with expenses covered by Kono Kogs (expense report required).
  • Tools: Any tools necessary to complete the job will be provided.
  • Company Vehicles: Available when required for job-related purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Mechanical and Fusion 360.
  • Experience in creating mechanical drawings and sheet metal flat patterns.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various departments and clients.
  • Mentoring experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SMACNA standards for designing stacks and ductwork.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to confidently lead projects and articulate thoughts clearly to team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
